Situated high above the town´s railway station, the original tower of Penrith Castle was built by Bishop Strickland between 1397 and 1399. The castle was improved and enlarged by Ralph Neville, the Earl of Westmorland, and the ruins and moat are still a major attraction for all age groups who visit Penrith. The outline of the castle forms an incredible backdrop to the attractive municipal park in Penrith.
