Save the Reds in the Lake District
New initiatives have been launched to help protect the red squirrels in the Lake District and Cumbria.
A Lake District map showing grey squirrel control in the north of England has been created to help protect the threatened red squirrels.

The Red Squirrel Survival Trust (RSST) has also set up a £40,000 control fund to pay for trapping projects which will help the survival of the species. Natural England and the Forestry Commission are working alongside the Trust in two new initiatives which aim to safeguard native red squirrel strongholds in Northumberland, Cumbria, North Yorkshire and Merseyside.
